Gear System for a Vertical Axis Wind Turbine- Part2
The food blender gearbox will work great for increasing the rpms of a vertical axis wind turbine. Higher rpm means more power is generated to charge a 12 or 24-volt battery bank. The plan is to create as much as possible because every little step and distance the current travels, it will loose little here and there.
One of the downfalls of a vertical axis wind turbine is the low turn speed. It can be solved with a series of large opposing magnets and copper coil dynamo, or increase the rpms. I started to go the root to create my own generator but ran out of copper for the coils and the interest level. I like to use want I already have. For example, the garage door motor was supposed produce 600 watts, but it doesn't even get close to a decent wattage until it reaches over 800 rpm.
